Akron General EHP Coordination of Benefits (COB)

COB is the process used to pay healthcare expenses when you or an eligible dependent are covered by more than one insurance policy (including Medicare).  All EHP members are required to complete the COB process when they enroll for the first time on the plan, if a life event occurs involving the addition/deletion of a dependent, or if other insurance is acquired or terminated.

New in 2020:  Mutual Health Services (MHS) - our Third Party Administrator (TPA) - has partnered with COB Smart to more efficiently identify EHP members who have other insurance coverage.  MHS receives weekly files from COB Smart with those EHP members matching other insurance and will automatically update your record.  This means less paperwork for most EHP members.  Some smaller insurance companies may not currently participate in COB Smart.  In these instances, you will be asked to complete the COB form.

You can complete the process in one of three ways:
  1. If you have no other insurance coverage for 2019 or 2020, you can call MHS Customer Service at 1.800.451.7929. An automated phone system is available 24/7, or representatives are available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. ET.
  2. Update your information electronically at the Mutual Health Services’ website,
  3. Complete a hard copy of COB form and send it to MHS using the fax number or mailing address on the form.
If you have questions about the annual COB process, please contact MHS at 1.800.451.7929.
